K2 ON TOUR

K2010 logo

For the 3rd of K2's summer expeditions, we got bored of spending miles on the roads and for the first time took to the skies, flying to the sun kissed country of Croatia, for 11 days of go karting, scuba diving, sea kayaking, wind surfing, Olympics, getting lost, boat trips, high ropes, horse riding, evening entertainment, eating battered weasel, and arguing with Boris!

Day 1: Travel out

We flew out from East Midlands airport, dressed in red expedition t-shirts and fezzes, flying via Venice Treviso where we caught a coach to the hostel in Pula.

Day 2: Pula & go karts

A lazy first day, swimming in the sea in the morning, sightseeing in Pula in the afternoon, then we upped the pace with go karting in the evening.

Day 3: Scuba & aquarium

In a fishy themed day we popped along to the 5 star Hotel Histria for a session of scuba diving in the day and visited an aquarium in the evening.

Day 4: Sea kayaking & wind surfing

We had two activities at Boris's emporium of water sports today - half went off in sea kayaks while the others windsurfed, then we swapped over.

Day 5: Olympics day

To celebrate the amazing feats of Team GB that were going on back home, we held our own sports day with various activities and in the evening played crazy golf.

Day 6: Biking, swimming & wind

The biking didn't go as planned when some of our group got lost and we cancelled. We hit the beach instead then had a great evening listening to the wind orchestra.

Day 7: Boat trip

Lots of Explorers were disappointed that instead of the planned hike, we instead went on a full day boat trip wound some of Croatia's best tourist areas. Honest!

Day 8: High ropes

Great day today when we challenged our fear of heights with a visit to a fantastic high ropes course called Glavani Park. They even cooked us lunch!

Day 9: Scout Island & murder mystery

Today we had a boat trip over to Scout Island to do a bit of community service & find out about Croatian Scouts. In the evening was our amazing murder mystery.

Day 10: Horses, jeeps & the last supper

After an action packed day horse riding and on jeep safari, we had our traditional last supper and ceremonially burnt Frank, K2's Unit mascot.

Day 11: Venice & back home

After a very early start we travelled to Venice for a day sightseeing before heading back to the airport and catching the plane home.

Explorers' comments

Lucy - "It was 'fez-tastic!' A great mix of activites with holiday attitude :)"

Steph - "It was one of the best trips I've had with the Scouts - soo much fun and I learnt alot from all the activities. Thankyou for taking us."

Ellen - "Going abroad with the Scouts was fantastic. It was a unique chance to experience another culture, as well as being able to try new activities that would be difficult to experience at home. Our activities were so different to anything we'd done before as Scouts. We had some opportunities to do water sports such as wind surfing and scuba diving, which are very popular in Croatia. We went on a boat trip which gave us an insight into a more traditional side to Croatia and its culture. We stayed in a Youth Hostel on Pula's coast, which gave us the chance to go swimming and cool off out of the sun! Staying there was good because our location made it easy to go into Pula and it was only a short walk away from some of the activities. On the expedition, we had Explorers from four different Units. Although the majority of us already knew each other as we were based in Wrexham, living together and completing activities together gave everyone the chance to get to know each other better. I became better friends with those from other Units, as well as Explorers from my own Unit! We also met some people from Brazil and Germany by teaching them games that we played at night. The experience has definitely changed me. At first, i was worried about some of the activities, however Croatia made me realise that if you give something a go, you'll probably love it! Croatia was an amazing experience, and something I will never forget."

Ben - "Pretty epic!"
