For the 2nd of K2's summer expeditions, we travelled to the unique setting of Kandersteg in Switzerland - home of Kandersteg International Scout Centre - for 10 days of mountains, cheese, yodelling, chocolate, neutrality, cows, meadows, cuckoo clocks and everything else Swiss!

Days 1 - 3: London

We spend the first few days in London where we watched a BBC Radio programme being recorded, did a Monopoly run, went on the London Eye and visited the London Dungeons.

Day 4 & 5: Travel

The coach picked us up from London, we caught the ferry, then travelled through the night to Kandersteg, then went swimming as soon as we arrived.

Day 6: Rafting & International BBQ

We had a fantastic day white water rafting down the Lutchine river's grade 3 & 4 rapids. When we got back we dressed up for the international barbecue.

Day 7 & 8: Mountain walking & disco

Everyone set off on hikes. Some were just on a day hike, but most were heading for the Lotschepass hut where they'd stay the night, before returning for the disco.

Day 10: Jungfraujoch trip & campfire

We took the train to the highest station in Europe at the Jungfraujoch where we stripped off at 11,000ft. In the evening we went to the campfire dressed as Lady GaGa!

Day 11: Oeschinensee

We took the cable car up to Oeschinensee to have a go at tobogganing and then swam in the freezing glacial lake. Brrr! After some sunbathing we walked back to the village.

Day 12: Swiss National Day

A packed day to celebrate Switzerland's national day. After crazy golf we took part in an international fete then paraded down into the village until the heavens opened!

Days 13 & 14: Last day & travel home

We had a day shopping in Interlaken before our last meal at Dessies. The next day we headed back to the UK, stopping on the way in Thun and London.

Explorers' comments

Fraser - "The trip was an amazing experience for me by doing things I would never have dreamed of doing such as standing on the Jungfraujoch, the top of Europe, because I bet none of my friends will ever do it, so it is a once in a lifetime experience. I met people from Sweden and also exchanged email so hopefully will stay in touch. The memories will always stay with me!"

George M - "It was an amazing trip and I had the time of my life! My favourite part was the white water rafting - very exciting and adrenalin packed."

Leah - "Going to Kandersteg was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The atmosphere there was always amazing and you were never stuck for something to do. My favourite bit was going to the highest point in Europe, Jungfraujoch. At one point outside your hair froze instantly, it was a great laugh! We met hundreds of Scouts from around the world. It was great to see other people's cultures and how they embrace Scouting compared to us. The trip has taught me a lot about teamwork, and looking out for others, especially when we went white water rafting where everybody depended on each other."

Danny - "Kandersteg was a fantastic start to my summer, my favourite part of the trip was hiking into the spectacular mountains near Kandersteg and walking over a glacier to stay at an amazing mountain hut, the view from my bed when i woke up was truly out of this world - the sun rising on the Swiss alps. The Hike has inspired me to climb higher to see even more. I met so many awesome people in Kandersteg the most memorable being the pinkies, who were Scouts over 18 that ran the K.I.S.C centre. I also spoke to a lot of local people, who had a pleasant sense of humour. I learnt that even though we were in Switzerland, the friendly atmosphere felt like we had been living at Kandersteg for years and that everyone was welcome here."

Rhys - "I thought the trip was absolutley amazing - a fantastic experience. My favourite bit was Jungfraujoch as it was something I'd never done before. It was fantastic to be at the top with the snow, and then in the sun closer to the bottom. Amongst others, I met Sandra Klaerke (Denmark), Moa Skan and Ellen Hook (sweden). email contact with sandra and fb contact with moa and ellen. I learnt a bit of swedish and that there are so many people like us all over the world involved in explorers and I got to meet some!"
